Wednesday...almost there.

Silly Splatter Monsters and Dia de los Muertos Skulls filled my day today. The students worked hard on giving their silly monsters character and personality. I'm at a different school Wednesday-Friday so I get a chance on Monday and Tuesday to test out the lessons and fix any kinks.

My students flocked to a new student and made him feel right at home in art.

Tuesday Chaos

So today Kindergarten through 2nd Grade continued working on their Silly Splatter Monsters. Kindergarten had a little difficulty with understanding how to add facial features and cutting them out so they turned out a little messy but they have character. :) 1st Grade understood better and did a really great job adding personality to their monsters. Maybe next year for Kindergarten I will do something a little less complicated or have all the pieces they need ready to cut out. Ideas are welcome! The following pictures are all of 1st and 2nd Grade.

This is the work of my very creative boyfriend.

The young artist that created this has a very creative mind and amazing eye for detail. This is her Happy Meal Monster

How to Draw a Face

Thanks to a fellow art teacher in my school district, I found these helpful pages from a drawing book on faces. My kids love to draw themselves and I am always looking for ways to help them improve their drawing skills.

A good lesson idea would be to have them capture their own expressions in a mirror and draw them like this.

Drawing from a picture is also a lesson idea that might help students become familiar with drawing themselves.
